Colour Theory

  • What is this colour wheel and what does it do?

  • Creating and using an effective colour scheme.

  • Understanding how to plan and problem solve colours on your models before and after you start painting.

Making the most of references

  • Finding references for whatever you need, and how to 'borrow' concepts from different images.

  • Breaking down how to reference colour schemes, effects and patterns.

  • Applying these references to your models.

Telling a Story

  • Creating a narrative with your painting and expressing the "Who, Where and Why" of your model.

  • Using characters and stories to guide your choices

  • How to alter a model to tell a story.

Paint Mixing and Colour Matching

  • Learning how to mix, match and tint your paints to match your vision.

  • Deciphering and describing the elements of colour, and how to use them. 

  • Setting up a colour palette and mixing skintones from scratch.

Creating an atmosphere

  • How the environment changes the way you paint.

  • Planning a scene for your model.

  • Considering and applying light direction, strength and ambient colour.

Painting surfaces and textures. 

  • Bringing texture and light to the surfaces of your model. 

  • Painting common surfaces like skin, leather, metal and cloth.

  • How different surfaces age and weather. 

Two full days of painting and personal instruction.

for intermediate and above miniature painters  (or beginners looking for a challenge!)
